Introduction to Unmanned Systems in Precision Agriculture

This course will provide students with the skills necessary to perform aerial scans of a variety of crops to capture and process the data per customer requirements. Students will receive flight training on field scouting drones to include the DJI Mavic Air 2 and the Mavic 2 Enterprise. Additional training on the Skydio 2+ may be provided if time permits. Equipment: Students will receive flight training on the DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral, the DJI Phantom 4 RTK Multispectral, and the DJI M300 RTK equipped with the Altum -PT multispectral/ thermal payload. Software: Students will receive training on the mission planning apps and the data processing programs to include Drone Deploy, Pix4D Fields, and DJI Terra. Required materials: A laptop computer or tablet (PC/Android preferred). I-Pads work well with most of the software, however MAC computers tend to have problems with some if the programs that we use. A notebook for recording field observations and conditions. Course Prerequisites: No prior flying experience is required. Completion of the FAA TRUST test is a mandatory requirement prior to operating a drone. Notes: Bring a water bottle and sunscreen. As this class is conducted over lunch, please feel free to bring a snack with you.
